Victims of March 31 Genocide were commemorated at UNEC
Event devoted to the March 31- Azerbaijanis Genocide Day has been held at UNEC.
Memories of the genocide victims were marked with a minute’s silence within the event attended by the academic and student staffs of UNEC. Vice-rector of UNEC for Students’ Affairs, Associate Professor Saadat Gandilova delivered detailed information about the massacre and expansionist policy against Azerbaijani people implemented by the Armenians. She stressed that the first political and legal assessment to the act of genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis was given by the “Decree about the Genocide of Azerbaijanis” signed by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev on March 26 1998. The decision on the establishment of “Genocide Memorial Complex” in Guba was made by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on December 30 2009.
Professors of the Department of “Humanitarian disciplines” Hidayat Jafarov and Abbas Seyidov and the Head of the Department “Economy of Labor”, Professor Tofig Guliyev made speeches about the genocide based on historical facts.
They highlighted that about 8 thousand of civilians were killed in Shamakhi within March-April of 1918; national monuments, schools, mosques and other buildings were completely destroyed. Sharply criticizing the crimes committed by Armenians, the speakers stressed the importance of the kind of events in educating young people with the spirit of patriotism.
At the end of the event Mehriban Alakbarzade’s documentary film “One day of the history or a day’s history” was demonstrated.
