A proctor system for distance exams will be applied at UNEC

The next online meeting of the Scientific Council has been   held at UNEC.

The Vice-Rector for Education and Training Technologies, Associate Professor Anar Rzayev made a report on the state of preparation for the spring exam session for the 2019/2020 academic year at the Scientific Council. It was noted that  since March 12, being more than 900 a day, a total of 22,993 distance learning lessons  have been taught at UNEC every day,  and the organization of lessons has been completed by 99%. The report provided information on the rules of the exams, technical preparation for the session, as well as the state of preparation of tests and exam schedules. Noting that the proctor system will be applied for the first time in the country at   the distance exams to be held at UNEC, the vice-rector said that relevant trainings had  been  held for the proctors  and sub-administrators who would  supervise the exam session.  It was stated that 23,000 videos of distance learning had been sent to students’ personal cabinets. Students would be able to better prepare for exams by listening to lessons again.

The head of SABAH Center, Aida Quliyeva, said that distance learning had been   held at the center according to the program approved by the Ministry of Education. He stressed that the spring exam session would be held in accordance with the rules of distance exams applied at UNEC.

Sabuhi Tanriverdiyev, the director of DCAEC said that the spring exam session would  be held at  the correspondence education department from June 1 to June 23, and teaching aids had  been  uploaded to teachers’ personal cabinets.

S.Tanriverdiyev also spoke about the organization of the summer term. He said that according to the new rules, the distance learning seminar- lecture session would be held on July 20-23, and the exam session   on August 24-28. It was noted that students from other universities would also be able to join UNEC Summer School by submitting a reference   from their university.

Professor Orujali Rzayev, director of Zagatala branch of UNEC, said that 99% of distance lessons had been organized at the branch, exam tests had been prepared and uploaded to the electronic system.

Director of College of Finance and Economics at UNEC, Associate Professor Oruj Mammadov said that 100% of distance learning lessons had been   organized by the college, and attendance had been more than 50%. The council made proposals on the organization of distance exams at the college.

Director of the Examination Center, Associate Professor Sohrab Isayev briefed on the rules of organizing the spring exam session. Then, new proposals had been made at the exam session to make  additional  concessions to students. The proposals were accepted by the members of the Council.

Under the new concessions, students studying beyond the normative period of study (for academic debts remaining from the previous academic year) will have the right to take exams in two additional subjects. Students who do not agree   with  AIS  will apply to take the exams to improve their results. Dissertations for masters will be plagiarized, taking into account the limits of mitigation.

Taking into account the large number of applications from students,  ACCA certificate, obtained in previous periods, will be accepted in the relevant exams during the spring exam session.

1761 students who had won 5415 certificates in the Coursera of Campus courses will  be exempted from the exams in the relevant subjects. The percentage of mastery in the certificates will be taken as the final grade of the student in the subject.

It was instructed to bring forward the time for re-examination of graduate students.

The number of test questions for full-time students has been reduced from 700 to 350, and for part-time students from 500 to 300. The tests will be sent to students’ personal cabinets one week before the exam.

Another concession was related to the issuance of practice points. Thus, the experience of all graduate students, without exception, will be evaluated by 100 points.

Taking into account the competition for scholarships, AIS will be calculated based on the result of up to 4 digits after the comma.

The Council adopted a proposal on the organization of distance defence of masters studying on International Master’s and Doctoral program, and additional privileges were given to masters in the spring exam session. Thus, taking into account the fact that the vast majority of masters are engaged in labor activity, exam schedules will be adapted to their work schedule, and exams will be held on Saturdays.

The summaries of the masters adopted at “II International Scientific Conference of Masters and Doctoral Students in Economics and Management” will be accepted as scientific articles. Masters who hadn’t   submitted  a pandemic report would also be allowed to defend with a minimum score.

Taking into account the social status of students, students who are unable to pay tuition fees (except for the graduation course) will be given the right to deferment if they apply.

Exams for students with computer problems should be traditionally held at the university in August-September.

5GB per month for internet will be paid into  smart cards of students with internet problems.

 The current situation of students participating in UNEC exchange and dual degree programs was also discussed at the council. Negotiations are underway with relevant agencies to bring them to the country. Students participating in the exchange and dual degree program will be given the right to take distance exams organized by UNEC to complete their courses on time.

After the speeches, current issues were discussed.

On June 19, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of UNEC, it was decided to celebrate this date as “UNEC Day”.

The Academic Council decided to abolish the Student Department and establish a Student Affairs Center, as well as  UNEC Volunteer Student Organization, the International Students Cross Culture Organization and UNEC Mentoring Service.

In order to further enhance the digital skills of UNEC teachers, staff and students,  Digital Volunteer Organization has been established, based on the experience of world universities providing distance education and consisting of students.

By the decision of the Council,   Distance Education Research Institute was established to conduct serious research on the transition to distance education and UNEC International Council of Experts, which will be represented by Nobel laureates, as well as influential foreign experts.

Department of “The Russian language” was abolished and merged with the department of “Foreign languages”. Taking into account the closure of a number of specialties, the department of “Enterprise Economics” was abolished.

The Council decided to abolish the faculties of Technology and Design, as well as Expertise and Standardization, and to establish the faculty of Digital Economics and the Faculty of Engineering.
