Novelty at UNEC: “Science Month”
The “Science Month” has been started at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) on the occasion of the “World Science Day”. In this regard, the comprehensive actions plan was approved at UNEC. According to the plan, starting from October the 10th the implementation of a series of events began. Scientific seminars, round- table discussions, academic discussions and debates with the participation of Azerbaijan’s well- known scientists and economists are planned to be held. Debates on “The Role of Science in Human Development”, “The Role of ICT in Scientific Studies”, “The New Design of the Unity of Science and Education”, “The Scientific and Pedagogical Staff Development Issues of UNEC” and other topics will be held within the “Science Month”. Thematic round- tables, at the same time a series of lectures about the Nobel Prize laureates in Economics will be organized at the faculties within the “Science Month”.
The implementation of the international conference TEDx on “The Combination of Science and Education” is included to the “Science Month” organized at UNEC. The “Science Month” will be completed in the final meeting to be held to mark the World Science Day on November 10 and the winners of scientific articles’ competition evaluated by the relevant commission will be awarded.
“Reports about the Nobel Prize Laureates in Economics” attended by the country’s leading scientists and experts and the research scientists of UNEC has been started on November 17.
UNEC Rector, Professor Adalat Muradov spoke about the significance of the “Science Month”. He said UNEC has been hosting “Science Days” and “Science Week” for already long time. The main purpose of the “Science Month” is to increase the attractiveness of scientific activity in UNEC, to encourage the teaching staff and students in scientific research, to reveal the research employees’ potential and introduce them to public. A.Muradov emphasized that it is time to distinguish teaching staff and researchers from each other and the importance of defining the scientists capable to make researches.
UNEC Rector spoke about the work being done and will be done to realize the above projects. He said that UNEC employees whose articles are published in the prestigious journals have already been awarded. “UNEC expert” journal is being published to bring the researchers together.
Saying “Our goal is to make UNEC the scientific-research oriented university”, A.Muradov made his proposals to reach the goals: UNEC’s graduate students should give preference to the scholars distinguished in UNEC’s rating list with their scientific performances choosing a scientific supervisor. Head of the “XXI Century Training Center” Etibar Aliyev noted that the identification of the owners of Nobel Prize is an event of the worldwide attention. In this regard, the hearing of the reports on the Nobel Prize Laureates as part of the “Science Month” held at UNEC is commendable. Then E.Aliyev made a presentation on the topic “The Nobel Prize and Baku Fund”. He spoke about the history of the Nobel Prize, rules and statistics. He stressed the role of Baku oil in establishing the award. The event proceeded with discussions. Participants made proposals on the creation of the corner dedicated to the Nobel Prize Laureates in Economics and supply the corner with wealthy books. The necessity of publishing a book on the “Science Month”, placement of the data on UNEC’s website and continuing the discussions on Radio UNEC were also highlighted. The appropriate structural units were instructed on the implementation of the proposals. The event was broadcast live on the official Facebook page.
